Don't Miss Community Service Night Tuesday, Oct. 20

Mosaic invites Hunter parents to come to the fourth annual Community Service Night on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 pm at the auditorium. More than a dozen local non-profits representing a broad spectrum of efforts will participate; speakers will include school administrators, students and representatives of the community service groups.  Parents can sign up for service activities designed for entire families. Read on for descriptions of and links to 11 participating organizations and their programs.

  • Charles B. Wang Community Health Center provides quality, culturally relevant, and affordable health care and education, as well as advocacy on behalf of the health and social needs of the medically underserved with a focus on Asian Americans. 
  • Celebrate U Foundation hosts, organizes, and manages birthday parties for disadvantaged children, children who reside or are temporarily in shelters, and children who are infirm, disabled or can’t afford to celebrate their birthday in a fun, joyous and educational way. These parties build self-esteem and give hope.
  • Música de Cámara presents concerts by Hispanic classical musicians. 
  • DOROT enables the elderly to live fulfilled and independent lives through a variety of intergenerational programs. Volunteer families deliver care packages and visit with the elderly, who live by themselves.
  • Reading Partners is a national educational nonprofit dedicated to improving students literacy skills.
  • Westside Campaign Against Hunger is a supermarket-style food pantry that alleviates hunger and creates a culture that promotes self-reliance and works for change.

Parents will be able to talk to representatives from a range of organizations, take home literature and sign up for upcoming volunteer events -- either with their individual families or as groups that can participate together in service activities. Refreshments will be served.
