First PTA General Meeting of 2020: Wed 1/22

Please join us for an illuminating evening focused on teenage vaping and substance abuse. Dr Michael Weitzman, Professor of Pediatrics, Environmental Medicine and Global Public Health at NYU will join us to answer all your questions!

5:45-6:00pm: Auction Update, Room 220. Join Auction Chair Charlie Schleck for a discussion of the most exciting event of our PTA calendar: the 2020 Auction (March 28th). Learn how we can all pitch in to build a great event! 

6:00-6:30pm: Roundtable on Vaping and Substance Abuse, Rooms 202 and 224. Join HCHS's psychologists,  Dr. Lonette Belizaire and Dr. Alison Ferst, for an informal community dialogue on vaping and other addictive behaviors in adolescence — We will be thinking together about risk factors and protective factors.  This will be a conversation and not a workshop or didactic presentation. This will be an opportunity for parents to share their experiences, questions, and concerns with us and with one another before the Main PTA Meeting and Presentation from Dr Weitzman. 

6:00-6:30pm: 8th Grade Parents' Meeting, Room 204. 8th Grade parents will meet with Ms. Elisa Lee Weinberg, the 8th Grade Couselor, to discuss typical developmental issues of eighth graders and how parents can support their children as they navigate the unique challenges of being an 8th Grader.  

6:30-7:00pm: Refreshments served - outside the Auditorium

Vaping: a Presentation and Discussion with Michael L. Weitzman, MD

Join Dr. Weitzman, an expert on child development and wellness at NYU School of Medicine, for an insightful and informative presentation and discussion on vaping and how it affects children and young people. Please send your questions in advance: If you have questions for Dr Weitzman please  feel free to send them to programming@hunterpta.org and we will collate them for a Q&A session after Dr Weitzman’s presentation.

Transportation: 
Following the meeting, depending on demand, the PTA will supply minivan transportation to Flushing along the route of Queens Boulevard/Union Turnpike/Parsons Boulevard.  To reserve a spot, please RSVP to  bus@hunterpta.org by 1/17/2020  and indicate "PTA meeting minivan" in the subject line so that we can schedule a bus if needed.
