Welcome, and Key Information for the New School Year

Welcome to the 2019/20 school year!  Welcome to all our new families and welcome back to all returning families. We are looking forward to a wonderful HCHS year.

This year we are sending you back-to-school information both via email and by regular mail, with a view to transitioning to being as paperless as possible throughout this school year and beyond. Please note: our paper mailing has been unavoidably delayed, but should arrive over the Labor Day weekend. Please do print the school photo form from the link below if you do not receive the mailing before your child's scheduled picture day of September 4th or September 5th. 

Below please find some useful details as you start to plan for the beginning of the first semester. Incoming 7th Grade families please also see the special sub-section of the note below.

First - the HCHS Printed Calendar will be sent out in the mailed packet. The calendar lists dates for both school and PTA events for students, parents and faculty, which are accurate as of the date of mailing. It also contains useful contact information for both HCHS Administration and the PTA. 

Throughout the school year please refer to the online School and PTA websites for the most up-to-date calendars and any changes. Please note that dates are correct as at the time of going to print and are subject to date, time or location change.

School Photo Form:

The form has been sent via email and will also be in the mailed packet. The ID number required is in the form already.

Students must bring the completed form and payment to Orientation Day (dates provided below).

The Photo Form is for both the purchase of School Photo packages and school ID card – as well as for the Yearbook.

Picture Day is September 3rd for 11th and 12th Grades and September 4th for all other Grades. There is a retake day later in the year. Photo day is run by School – please contact your Assistant Principal with any questions.

Please note that HCHS receives 20% of sales.

 

Your support of HCHS!

Donations to the PTA’s Fundraising support myriad programs that enhance all our children’s HCHS experience in countless ways: music, sports, debate, labs, field trips, textbooks, faculty development, student publications, student clubs, facility upgrades and so much more! 
 
The suggested total amount per child for 2019-20 is $1,475 and any and all amounts, from $25 to $25,000 are meaningful. The Annual Fund is the PTA’s single largest source of funding, providing more than 75 percent of the PTA’s budget. Our goal for 2019-2020 is $750,000 and for 100% of Hunter families to participate.

This year, each $75 contribution entitles you to a printed copy of the 2019-20 Family Directory (please see above).

To donate, payment can be made online with a credit card (preferred method) or by check. Please attach this form when paying by check. 

The HCHS PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Annual Fund donations can be made any time throughout the school year.

The PTA Online Parent Directory:

The PTA and School administration will send communications by email over the school year, and it is vital that your details are up to date so that you do not miss important information. The Directory can be accessed at: hunterpta.org/directory.

If you have not done so already, please retrieve your username and establish a password in order to log in to both the school and the PTA websites. This username and password will allow you to access both the school's and the PTA's sites and to navigate from one to the other.

If you are logging in for the first time, click the LOG IN button in the upper left-hand corner. On the login page, click "Forgot login or First time logging in?" and then follow the instructions to retrieve your username and set a password. If you encounter problems, clear step-by-step instructions can be found here.

Additional assistance with the school's website is available via email from the school's technology staff at the address help@hunterschools.org. Please note that log-in instructions in Chinese and Korean can be found on the website.

2019-20 Orientation Schedule – Please note the different dates and times:

Orientation for Grade 7 is Wednesday, September 4th at 8:30am.

Orientation for Grade 8 is Wednesday, September 4th at 10:45am.

Orientation for Grades 9 and 10 is Wednesday, September 4th at 1:00pm.

Orientation for Grades 11 and 12 is Tuesday, September 3rd at 1:00pm.

Another scheduling note: the math proficiency exam is Wednesday, September 4th at 8.30am.

 

First PTA Meeting of the 2019-20 School Year:

Mark your calendars for our first PTA meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, September 25th at 7:00pm in the auditorium.Please join us to presentations by the School’s Administrative team, Department Heads and a Q & A. 

Preceding the main meeting, at 6:00pm,  there will are several other presentations and meetings, including a presentation by Neil Potter, HCHS Athletics Director, on Middle School and varsity sports, and meetings with Executive Grade Reps and some PTA Committees.
